Coach Development

Coaching is about sharing knowledge and experience, making sport fun and helping athletes to reach their potential. Coaches help make sport happen in New Zealand. Whether you're the volunteer coach of a kids' volleyball team or a high performance coach working with elite athletes, there is always more to learn and to pass on.

Coach Education Courses

Sport Tasman is committed to providing a quality, generic coach education programme that is available to all sporting codes so that coaches can develop and improve their knowledge.

Our Sport Development team can deliver generic coach education workshops to a cluster of codes or to individual sporting codes on request. Each module has a resource booklet and a workbook and is delivered in one or two workshops.

Alternatively if you are short on time you could try a distance learning approach and complete our introductory level on-line, generic coaching modules; Kick Start Your Coaching and Safety Net .  As you will be working at your own pace, you will be able to decide how many modules you complete.

Please note that these modules are not designed to replace the various National Sports Organisations code specific coach education programmes that currently exist throughout New Zealand, rather they are there to compliment them.

Coach Mentoring & Mentor Training

Coach mentoring is a process that aims to support and advance coaches and coaching at all levels of sport and is a highly effective way for new coaches to learn the “how” of coaching, and apply theory that they may have learnt in a classroom or through independent study.

The Sport Development Team can also offer training and advice to any experienced coach wishing to become a coach mentor to develop other coaches within their own sport.

"Team guts always beats individual greatness."
