Tired of travelling in order to make the active choice the easy choice?

Look no further!  Way2Go is a project aiming to increase the physical activity levels of the regions residents in their communities - with a focus on those who are aware they should be active but currently are not.

Way2Go’s Key Objectives

  • Provision of low impact physical activity opportunities
  • Remove barriers to participation

Nelson Way 2 Go Cluster

Four organisations are working together as the Nelson Way2Go Cluster, offering a range of physical and nutritional activity programmes in Nelson called ‘Making the active choice the easy choice’.Three organisations – Saxton Stadium, Tahunanui Community Centre and Victory Community Centre – deliver diverse programmes to their communities, while The Truck delivers to youth aged 11 to 18 years across the city. The organisations work to develop activities to meet the needs of these communities using staff, paid tutors and volunteers to deliver them.

Saxton Stadium is a regional sports facility that hosts a range of sports associations and has a wide variety of facilities. It offers Super Saxton Circuit, Core N Floor, Stabilise, Shape Up classes plus Walking & Social groups, Tai Chi Course, Badminton coaching, Table Tennis and Tumble Tots. Tahunanui Community Centre offers weekly daytime walking and cycling groups along with a monthly morning garden group. Evening activities include women’s group fitness classes, and mixed indoor netball and summer soccer teams. A community wide sports day ‘Stepping Out’ is held in the summer and the popular ‘Picnic in the Park’ in late November.  The centre also provides Preschool and Playgroup services, a school holiday programme, family support and free counselling. A meeting room is available for hire as is the preschool for children’s parties. Tahunanui community centre also provides links and support for people to engage in wider community events and activities. Victory Community Centre  Term 2 Victory on the Move Programme is out now! Packed with fantastic arts and physical activities for Adults, Children, Young People and Families / Whanau.

We celebrate Matariki with a Lantern Making workshop, Fire & Drumming sessions and our celebrated Matariki Lantern Parade

For Adults we have, Pilates, Yoga, Get Cooking & Tai Chi courses, Plus Victory Social Dancing, Sit and Be Fit, Hand Craft, Hula Hoop Fitness, Housie, Zumba, Laughter Yoga, Qi Gong, Victory Seniors, Anti Gravity – Circuit Fitness & Multicultural Social Seniors sessions and opportunities for volunteers to support the Victory Garden. 

For Young People  Touch Tuesday with the Truck, Y Drop In Boys & Girls Nights drop in sessions & KSI Karate Club  

For Families / Whanau Games Galore, Victorious Chess, Liberate Your Limbs, Imagination Box sessions, Shoshin Kendo, Badminton & Table Tennis Clubs, Play Group and Holiday Programme

Fun. Plus Littlies Day out & Barndance @ Victory events.

The Truck offers Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Touch, Rugby, Volleyball, team sports and skill sessions, free skate on our mobile skatepark, gaming on PS3's, Xbox & Computers (wifi access), with recreation sessions delivered between Tuesday - Saturday.
