Sport Tasman Activities in Buller

Welcome to the Buller community!  Wendy Bettjeman returns to her role as Community Recreation Advisor is based upstairs at the Solid Energy Centre and is your first point of contact to get more active, more often in Buller.

If you are an individual and not sure how, when or where to get active, a local club looking for administration support, or a coach looking to hone your skills, Wendy can sort you out!  If you are an early childhood centre or school looking for better ways to get your kids active, or a “bored” teenager, Wendy can sort you out!  If you are a little older or more delicate than some of us, then Wendy can certainly sort you out!

Major Events:

Lots of great activies on offer from Yoga, Step classes, Kids Fit, Acro Balance and HIIT Boot camp Style. All Free.

Wanting to explore a bit more of your own back yard and see what the Buller walking tracks have to offer. Join up to the Summer Explorer as an individual or with your mate as a team. Go out and explore some of the best tracks on the West Coast, either on foot or bike, and be in the draw to win some amazing prizes.

  • Westport Warrior - 29 April 2018

A fun multi challenge obstacle race with three different course to choose from to suit every ability, from kids to adults. Keep an eye out for more information on our facebook page and website next year.

  • New World Coast Kids Triathlon -  Westport, TBC March 2018

Sport Tasman is running this great event biannually now and the next one will be in September 2018. Means you have plenty of time to get those tool kits out and start building your trolley for 2018. This event is open to everyone we advise that the course is more suited for kids and families.

Event held annually in Westport to get the community active and have fun as a family.  The 2016 event was a huge success with 175 people of all ages coming out to the Orowaiti Estuary to get as muddy as possible. Participants had to work in teams and complete a full lap of the Estuary, completing different challenges and obstacles along the way  including piggy backing, wheelbarrow races, bum shuffles, tyre run, slides, tunnels, and everyone’s  favourite the Under Over obstacle created by the team at Wallis Plumbing.

A massive thanks to all those who came out and supported the event. Thanks to all the sponsors for making these community events possible, and thanks to all the volunteers! You guys were amazing and weren’t afraid to get down and dirty to help out! See you all in November 2017! We now have a Property Brokers as the new sponsor for this event, so a big thanks to them for coming on board with Sport Tasman.

Success Stories:

Sport Tasman Muddy Buddy 2016

The fourth year of the Buller Muddy Buddy event went off with a bang on Saturday 26th November down at the Orowaiti Estuaty. Even with forecasted thunder and lightning we still had 125 people pre-register for the event. And when the sun came out on the day we had an extra 50 racers make their way down to the start line. A massive thanks to the students at the Westport Fishing School who were amazing helpers on the day, and a huge thanks goes out to all our local sponsors who support this event year in and year out. This year it was great to see older folk getting involved, in fact this year we may have actually had more 18+ racers than kids! Looking forward to seeing more new faces there next year.
