Introduction

This module, which has been compiled in conjunction with Motorcycling New Zealand, is designed to introduce you to basic safety concepts and codes of ethics for sports coaches. It will help you:
  • Identify key elements of your role and your responsibilities to your athletes
  • Provide a safe environment for your athletes
  • Identify and apply key strategies for your own protection (and those in your management team).
As you go through this, think about how these concepts relate back to your sport, your athletes and yourself.

Please review the navigation guide before you start. This module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

You can also go to the Sport Tasman website to complete a Safety Net workbook that will help you to assess your understanding of safe practice in sport. You are advised to access the booklet before you begin the online module. Once the Sports Development Team have received your completed workbook, we will send you a completion certificate. The booklet should take about 30 minutes to complete. Completed workbooks can be forwarded to reception@sporttasman.org.nz.

Motorcycling coaches should take their completed workbook to their first coach education workshop, where it will be assessed by the workshop facilitator. Alternatively the completed workbook can be forwarded to coaching@mnz.co.nz.
