Primary and Intermediate

The focus for Sport Tasman in primary schools is to develop children’s fundamental movement skills (FMS) and encourage them to participate in sport and recreation opportunities in our region.

We offer teachers, parents and caregivers training and resources to improve their understanding of fundamental skills and ability to deliver fun active sessions for children.  Improving the capability of people in our community will lead to long term change – more quality opportunities for children to get active, more often.

Specific to schools, we have a tiered approach to what we offer.

Level 1

Sport Tasman can offer support from our experienced and qualified Advisors over a full year.  There are two fundamental skills programmes to choose from, one aimed at schools starting to focus on FMS development and one for advanced professional development. 

All staff participate in training, then our Advisor follows up with support including demonstrating and observing delivery, and advice on linking FMS development to your long term plan.

The beauty of this in-depth support is that it’s all tailored to your school’s individual needs!

Level 2

Sport Tasman offers a range of short workshops for staff, parents and caregivers, e.g. Leadership, GymFun, Teaching Games for Understanding.  We link with many different sports organisations to deliver workshops so you know you’re getting the best there is to offer.

Level 3

Sport Tasman has a huge range of exciting and colourful equipment that schools can use (see 'links' to the right).  We keep all schools up to date with ‘Sport Tasman School News’, sent out each term.  This includes information on up-coming workshops, KiwiSport funding, events, success stories etc.
